Welcome to Orientation! We would like to acknowledge the land we are on. The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. Today peoples from these bands have become part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz, as well as the Chinook and Cowlitz Nations. It is important to acknowledge the ancestors of this place and to recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendants.

Shawna Chambers, Assistant Director of the Financial Wellness Center in Student Financial Services, has been working for PSU since 2010. As a graduate of PSU and a native Portlander, she has worked in banking, social services, and higher education for over 25 years in the Portland area. Not only has her previous experience blended perfectly, preparing her for the world of higher education, finance and student services, it's been the fueling foundation for the improvement projects she's collaborated on within Portland State; such as the Financial Wellness Center. She frequently can be found presenting to parents, students and departments covering a wide variety of topics, ranging from "Paying for PSU" to "Customer Service Best Practices".
