Welcome to Orientation! We would like to acknowledge the land we are on. The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. Today peoples from these bands have become part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz, as well as the Chinook and Cowlitz Nations. It is important to acknowledge the ancestors of this place and to recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendants.

Cree Rose is an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree tribe in Rocky Boy, Montana. She has lived across the United States in New Jersey, New Mexico, California, and Illinois but now calls Oregon home. She began working at PSU in 2011 as a student worker and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences with minors in Indigenous Nations Studies & Black Studies. Through her various student work experiences Cree found a passion for helping students access higher education as a tool for transforming their personal lives and communities. In 2016, she joined the Admissions Office in a professional role and currently serves as a liaison with various community partners, as an on-campus committee member including the Native Caucus, scholarship committees, and working with local organizations like NAYA. Cree enjoys working with students to identify their goals, see how PSU could be a good fit, and make plans for the future. Outside of work she enjoys reading, beadwork, hiking, watching movies, and crafting.
