Welcome to Orientation! We would like to acknowledge the land we are on. The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. Today peoples from these bands have become part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz, as well as the Chinook and Cowlitz Nations. It is important to acknowledge the ancestors of this place and to recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendants.
If you have any questions throughout the day, our check in Smith Memorial Student Union (Ballroom, 355) will remain open for the entirety of the program.
If you would like a Cultural Resource Center tour, please stop by the MENASA Student Center and speak with Ahmed ElMansouri, and he would be happy to take you to La Casa Latina to chat with representatives, see their space, and learn more about what their community has to offer!
